Queenie McKenzie was an important cultural leader, revered Aboriginal law person and internationally acclaimed artist. Ten years after her death a beautifully produced book tells the remarkable story of her life through her paintings of the remote East Kimberley region.
Coo-ee Aboriginal Art Gallery will celebrate the artist’s life and launch the Book ‘Written in the Land’ with a retrospective exhibition drawing on works in private collections throughout Australia.
Queenie was a wonderful story teller who simply loved to paint. Each night she would go to bed and dream of what story or place she would paint the following day. She was a great character and a dear friend. Please come and help us celebrate her life and enduring legacy.
