The Djankawu sisters began their journey in the east,leaving the mythical island of Buralku in their canoes and reaching the coast of Arnhemland as it was lit by the rays of the rising sun.their journey relates stories exploring the landscape and naming places.as well as conveying the creative powers of these Ancestral Women.This painting depicts the sacred waterhole with the ceremonial object Mrdayin at the bottom of the work,Depicted is the dugong ,turtle and fish.The background design depicts the ceremonial rarrk that is painted on the bodies when the ceremonies associated wit the Djankawu are performed.
