DETAIL

One of Louise’s stories depicts the Kurrajong Bush Medicine Leaves. The desert literally becomes a blanket of wild flowers in a matter of weeks. Many of these are used for medicinal purposes and they are also used as food. As the leaves and petals dry out they fall off and are blown around the ground by the wind. The Kurrajong leaves are collected by the women and boiled, which is then used for the treatment of various ailments including headache, muscle pain and upset stomach. It is also mixed with animal fats to cover the heal wounds. This painting represents the leaves and petals that have fallen off and are blown around the ground by the wind.
