Aboriginal people are encouraged to sign up to go to World War I against Germany. They were told that bad men would come and take their land and hurt and kill them and take over Australia. Promises were made to pay them and give them rewards. This Aboriginal man cannot read or write and must sign permission by putting an X instead of his name. Many Aboriginal Diggers from many wars did not get the recognition because it was not recorded properly. My Uncle George died 4 days before his 21st birthday in WWI andis still buried in France. My family, my Grandmother was never compensated in any way. FOR THE DEAD ARE MANY ...LEST WE FORGET
