Story:
Framed Size: 56x46cm Image Size:39x29cm Recently there has been a rich explosion of images from the people of Menindee, in far Western NSW. Many of these images have come from the hands of people as young as 10 and 15, with such a sureness of touch, and strength and maturity of structure that onlookers have scratched heads in puzzled amazement. The works from these young people have created interest overseas and have been purchased for collections around Australia.
Menindee is a largely indigenous community where tree carving is an ancient practice in the region, and together with the extraordinary patterns of the arid land which spreads out from the Darling River, we have the ingredients of a unique development in contemporary art in this country.
