Mahalalakshmi mountain rises from the undulating Warli landscape to stand sentinel over Warli country. In times long past, almost beyond memory, Mahalakshmi took birth in a cave on this mountain in a self-begotten form, a stone image shaped by nature. Ever year the Warli come to the mountain on a pilgrimage. They dance all night to the Tarpa. The priest climbs to the top of the mountain to change the flag. There are many bees nests there but only the priest does not get stung. The cave and the mountain are sacred to the Warli.
