The first time a work by Nyapanyapa Yunupingu apeared at auction was as late as 2014, over six years since her first solo exhibition at the prestigious Roslyn Oxley9 gallery in Sydney. Incidentally, this screenprint was also her only failure at auction. Only 7 works have appeared in the secondary market in total, and six of them have sold for ever increasing amounts.
There is little doubt that this artist will have a growing presence in the auction houses in the years to come, provided that collectors are willing to let go of their prized paintings by this incredibly talented and well represented artist.
