Karntakurlu (Women) This Jukurrpa is about women, it is one of the few stories that are just about ladies.
It is a big story about Napanangka and Napangardi women, of all ages who travelled thousands of kilometres from near the Western Australia/Northern Territory border through into Queensland. This print depicts the women as they were getting ready for ceremony, paiting up. They were sitting in a line. These women are from the Dreamtime. One of the women who danced got up from Kankakurlangu and came from the west. She went ahead while the other women stated behind. She stopped at Munyuparntiparnti. She kept travelling from west to east. These women had karlangu (digging sticks). They ate the meat of wardapi (goannas) that they had killed. This etching shows where they ate. The'U' shapes depict the women and the dashes are the karlagu. The wardapi that they ate is depicted at the bottom of the door.
