Watiyawanu Artists, NT Cat No.10-08545
Philip Price Collection, ACT
This work depicts a Women’s site near an important Rockhole, close to Tjukurla. The roundel’s represent the rockholes as well as ceremonial sites. The lines in the centre represent sandhills. This site was an important one for Wentja’s father, Shorty Lungkata, who was a very prominent senior Papunya artist.
In contrast to her father's work, Wentja's paintingss are less geometric with a softening of iconography through interlacing with intricate finely dotted patterning. This soft dotting technique is characteristic of many of the Mount Liebig women artists.Share
