Geoffrey (Tjuruparu) Watson was born in the bush at a rockhole called 'Kulkutja'. It lies close to Kintore in the Northern Territory, a long way from Irrunytju, where the artist lived. Irrunytju was his mother's country. He was a teenager when his family walked into Warburton mission, after walking hundreds of miles to the west.

He began painting at Irrunytju in 2002 and his work was first exhibited in an Irrunytju Men's exhibition at Aboriginal and Pacific Art, Sydney in 2003. He was a senior elder at Wingellina and by 2007, when he painted this work, his paintings were in the collections of the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia.
