It is now thirty years since Dinah Garadji and her contemporaries Willie Gudabi, Djambu Barra Barra and Ginger Riley first created paintings on canvas at Ngukurr. Their art, informed by the rich wetlands of the Roper River on the coast of the Gulf of Carpentaria at the southern fringe of Arnhem Land first burst into the public domain in 1987. Characterised by bold colour and a stylistic individuality, they were the surprise package at that years National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in Darwin. The individuality in art styles was partly the result of different tribal affiliations and the absence of a community art centre to homogenise the painting style.

This work depicts the artist's grandmother’s country in a traditional manner. The site is near Borroloola Crossing. There is a freshwater lake between two steep hills and once you cross through the grasshopper plain to the north you reach the O’Keefe Valley.
