STORY
Ngupulya Pumani, a member of the Yankunytjatjara community, comes from a distinguished family of artists. She began painting in 2009, drawing inspiration from her mother’s artistic legacy. Her work vividly portrays her mother’s homeland, Antara, a sacred site connected to the Maku Tjukurpa (Witchetty Grub Dreaming), as well as her father’s homeland near Watarru. In her paintings, Ngupulya skilfully contrasts the pale, earthy tones of the desert landscape with vibrant patterns of bright dots and lines, symbolising the journeys of her mythological ancestors.
