STORY
Athena comes from a long line of artists. She is the the grand-daughter of Alma Nungarrayi Granites, and the great grand-daughter of Paddy Japaljarri Sims. She paints Dreaming stories which relate directly to her land, its features, and the plants and animals that inhabit it. This painting depicts the story of the seven ancestral Napaljarri sisters who were pursued across the land and eventually the night sky by a lustful Jakamarra man of the wrong kinship group. Today the sisters are found in the night sky as the star cluster known as the Plaeides.
