STORY
Boliny spent her childhood on the Marrakulu homeland in Barraratjpi, located within Cape Shield on Blue Mud Bay. The new homeland of Gurka’wuy was established in the early 1970s by her father. She is the widow of Birrikitji, who was the clan leader of Dhalwangu up until the early eighties. Boliny was a prolific artist, who worked with a variety of media including natural ochres on bark, lino-cut images, and wood carvings.
For many years she worked as an assistant to various other artists and aided Banduk Marika and her brother Wukun in creating a number of award winning works, though she generally stayed out of the limelight herself.
By 2009, the year her highly successful solo exhibition was held in Sydney, her work was to be included in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia.
