STORY

Our Moment, from the series Queer, Blak & Here, ed.8/10

‘The Indigenous and LGBTQI+ communities are resilient peoples that are thriving and growing. Through so much adversity, we have overcome all the obstacles that have been thrown at us, and we will keep empowering each other and grow in strength for a better future for us.’ – Dylan Mooney

In the series Queer, Blak, & Here, Dylan presents seven striking large-scale digital portraits that explore themes of love within queer communities. These works thoughtfully reflect experiences central to Mooney’s own life, offering a powerful and timely commentary. Through his art, Dylan shares his journey as a proud queer Indigenous man. The subjects in these portraits stand with confidence and defiance, engaging the viewer directly. The series weaves together ideas of identity, desire, and representation, encouraging broader conversations about art created by those from communities often marginalised or under-represented in mainstream spaces.

By combining digital media with social critique, the artist channels a strong sense of hope and pride. This optimism is evident throughout the works, which convey both emotional depth and meaningful substance.

Dylan is part of a new wave of artists using digital technologies and contemporary artistic methods to challenge and expand discussions around identity and representation. With a focus on including voices that have been overlooked, his work marks an important shift in how queer love, especially among people of colour, is represented and celebrated in the arts.
