STORY
The title ā€�As Above So Belowā€™ pays homage to the sentiments of a ā€�Yirrkalaā€™ elder and encourages meditative reflection on the ways that the deep culture of my Indigenous heritage and connection to country is interwoven with that of my Irish ancestry.The next chapter in my ā€�Wall Paper Seriesā€™, the painting conceptually encodes new insights from reflection and research gathered from investigations of colonial accounts of navigational encounter on land, river and sea between Indigenous and Europeans. Cardinal points, Songlines, arborglyphs, rock art, stars and scar trees create a layered complexity of signature vignettes. This is my story.  - Helen S. Tiernan
