STORY
Tiwi Ngaruwanajirri is an arts centre at Wurrumiyanga on Bathurst Island. Ngaruwanajirri, means ‘helping one another’ in Tiwi. The workshop was established in 1994 for disabled Tiwi residents. Today, Lillian Kerinaiua is one if its most unique and talented artists.
Pukamani poles represent individual people who have passed away. They act as part of the mourning process that continues after the deceased person has been buried.
