STORY
Lorna Ward Napanangka was born at Papunya, daughter of artist Timmy Payungka Tjapangati. She began painting at Kintore in 1996, creating works that reveal aspects of the traditional ceremonial sites.
This painting depicts designs associated with the rockhole site of Marrapinti, west of the Kiwirrkurra Community. A large group of senior women camped at this site and gathered kampurarrpa (bush raisins), which are ground to make a type of traditional damper. This site is also associated with nose piercing rituals for Pintupi women. The grid design literally represents a symbolic map of the Western Desert region and ancestral activities that were part of its creation story.
