STORY
Silas Hobson was a Kuuku Y’au/Wuthathi man who grew up in Lockhart River and was a dedicated and longstanding artist at the Lockhart River Art Centre.
Silas developed a distinctive visual language that reflected his deep connection to Country, community, and cultural heritage. His paintings and limited-edition prints were known for their strong technical quality and compelling imagery, often portraying the land, animals, and stories of his region.
He once explained, “My works are about my country and animals and they are a contemporary response to the traditional culture and isolation of my community.”
In life, Silas was not only a passionate artist but also an avid football player, hunter, and fisherman—someone who lived closely with the land he so often depicted in his work.
