STORY
This work was created in 1990 for Nickollsā€™ solo exhibition ā€Gondola Dreamingā€™ at the Queensland College of Art Gallery, after his return from the 1990 Venice Biennale where he was exhibited alongside of Rover Thomas. ā€Nickolls work has always dealt with the paradoxes and complexities of being an Aboriginal, in an urban environment. This particular work deals metaphorically with the difficulties of living with the incessant rain of white culture on Aboriginal society. The sad Aboriginal trapped in white mans houses with the spirit attempting to escape through the roof. The snakes in this painting represent danger.ā€¯ Exhibition catalogue
