In this painting the artist has depicted a women’s Dreaming at her birthplace, Punkilpirri, a large permanent water site to the south of the Tjukula Community.
A large group of women camped at this site and gathered the mangata fruit (quandong) which is prevalent in the area, the edible berry kampurarrpa (bush raisin) and the mungilypa seeds from the small fleshy sub-shrub (Tecticornia verrucosa). These seeds are ground into a paste, which is cooded in the coals to form a type of unleavened bread.
The women also performed the ceremonies associated tuh the are before continuing their travels further north.Share
