STORY
Djirrirra has explored her own interpretation ofĀ Yukuwa, a yam whose annual reappearance is a metaphor for the increase and renewal of her people and their land. TheĀ YukuwaĀ has inspired a new visual universe for the artist, centredĀ aroundĀ the seasonal variations of the yam and its morphology.Ā Djirrirra Wunungmurra was awarded theĀ TogartĀ Contemporary ArtĀ AwardĀ in 2008 and the Bark Painting Award at theĀ Telstra NATSIAAĀ in 2012.
